Murder by Death: “Red of Tooth and Claw” When someone asks me about what this band sounds like - the name 'Murder by Death' can make you think of many genres - I usually mention some combination of rock music, a cello, the old west and pirates. This new album seems a little more of a straight-forward of album, maybe even a little more somber, to me. It's a somewhat different direction for the band, but it's a great way to go. If you haven't heard this band, you really should.
Death Cab for Cutie: “Narrow Stairs” While this is going up May 1 and this album doesn't get released until May 13, it may seem strange to be talking about it, but this band has consistently put out excellent work. The song (and video) “I will possess your heart” has been released, and if the rest of album is anything like this and their other works, it will be great. I'll be picking this one up when it hits store shelves.
“Sicko” directed by Michael Moore Whether you're a fan of his previous works or not, you should see this movie. He compares our healthcare system with others from around the world. It's sometimes funny, sometimes sad and very scary.
“American Gangster” directed by Ridley Scott Great directing and great acting come together in this film. It is based on the true story of Frank Lucas (played by Denzel Washington) and the policeman-turned-lawyer (Russell Crowe) who goes after him in the late 60s/early 70s. Make sure to watch the extended version of the movie on DVD.
